Dr. Eric Marsden, ND

At the heart of my work is a simple, deeply held belief: reducing suffering in the world matters—and medicine, when practiced thoughtfully and courageously, can be a powerful way to do that.

Why I do What I Do

I came to integrative medicine through personal experience with chronic disease that was poorly served by a conventional system often limited by fragmentation and bureaucracy. What was missing was a whole-person perspective—one that considers physiology, psychology, environment, and lived experience together.

First, I focus on providing patients with comprehensive, individualized care that empowers them to understand their health and actively participate in healing. Second, I support fellow practitioners—helping them think more clearly, practice more effectively, and succeed in the work they are called to do. By supporting clinicians, the impact of healing extends far beyond any single practice.

At its core, my philosophy is about empowerment—helping patients and providers alike live and practice to the fullest expression of their potential by looking at the whole picture of human health.

Professional and Educational Experience

I began my academic training at the University of Toronto, earning a Bachelor of Science with a focus on Human Biology and Clinical Biochemistry. I went on to complete my naturopathic medical degree at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine, graduating in 2002.

A significant portion of my postgraduate education took place in Europe—primarily in Germany and Austria—where I was exposed to biological medicine and deeply integrative models of care. These experiences, particularly within integrative oncology settings, strongly shaped my clinical philosophy and reinforced the value of truly collaborative, systems-based medicine.

During my second year at CCNM, I co-founded the school’s first bookstore and professional health food store, Body Mind Science Resources, which supported both student education and practitioner access to clinical tools. I also played a key role in bringing European mistletoe therapy to Canada, working on its registration and importation, and later operating an importation and distribution company that required hands-on experience with regulatory and compliance processes.

I have been actively involved in professional leadership and advocacy, serving for many years on the Board of Directors of the Ontario Association of Naturopathic Doctors and continuing on its Government Affairs Committee throughout the profession’s transition to regulation. I chaired the committee during the critical period leading up to 2015, when naturopathic medicine moved from the BDDT-N to regulation under the RHPA. I have also had the honor of Chairing the Principles of Practice Committee for the Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians where our team published the first set of practice principes for naturopathic oncology care.

Clinically and educationally, I had the privilege of founding and leading Canada’s first naturopathic oncology residency program, training and mentoring multiple residents—many of whom continue to work alongside me today. I currently operate have have a clinical practice in the Marsden Centre for Excellence in Integrative Medicine, a multidisciplinary clinic with over 20 staff and providers delivering comprehensive integrative care.

Most recently, I founded the Ontario Naturopathic Integrative Network (ONIN), creating collaborative pathways between naturopathic doctors, nurse practitioners, and physicians across Ontario to improve continuity of care, address system gaps, and foster meaningful interdisciplinary collaboration.
